The use of Dermestid Beetles for this kind of work has been around for nearly a 100
years.  They are very thorough in cleaning, and when the entire process is complete,
you are left with a safe and sanitary skull or skeleton.  Something you will be proud to
hang on the wall or set on the desk.
We specialize in European mounts, if you have a need for our service, don't be afraid
to contact us, the prices won't change if your a hunter, taxidermist, collector, or
educator.  We also provide service for articulated and disarticulated specimens.
One of the ways to clean a skull was to boil it.  This in it's self can be a mess.  Too
often the skull will fall apart, teeth will break and the detail will be lost.  The time spent
reassembling, sometimes is just not worth the effort.
We believe you will be more than satisfied with the quality and our prices.  You can
be confident, we will do everything possible to maintain the natural integrity of the
bone, teeth and color.  Every specimen will be tagged as soon as it arrives, it will also
be checked and noted for any damages that may have accrued during shipment.
Please be aware that there can be natural defects, not detected until the beetles are
finished.  We do not boil, degreasing and whitening are done statically.  At no time do
the solutions rise above room temperature.
If I bring in an Antelope will the beetles eat the horns?
Yes they will, Antelope and Bison have a softer outer horn that the beetles
can eat.  We will do everything we can to protect them.
What about antlers in velvet?
Again, anything softer than the antler or bone will be eaten,  we will do all we
can to protect the softer velvet.
Will the color of the skull be consistent?
There will, more than likely be some slightly darker areas depending on the
thickness.  Because we don't boil, the thicker areas are not opened far
enough to allow the degreaser and peroxide to penetrate.
Will the skull crack?
Over time the skull can crack or split in places.  Because there are no oils
left in the bone, the cracks will appear in non-fused areas as the bone dries.
Also, changes in temperature and humidity can affect the skull.
Will there be any beetles left in the skull, and can they
do any damage?
Yes, you may see a beetle or larva in the skull.  They can get into the
smallest of places.  We make every effort to wash out and remove all of
them, but we may miss one.  The beetles that may remain in the skull are
dead.  Trust us when we say, they don't take too well to the degreaser or the
peroxide.
